Oakley
Oakley Bridge, which features in Catharine Furze, was one of WHW's childhood haunts. His "beloved Nurse Jane" lived in a thatched cottage in Oakley.
According to Maclean, "He never saw [the bridge] without stopping to regard, almost with veneration, the mark on it showing the incredible height to which the great flood of 1823 had risen." References to the mark occur in Catharine Furze and Notes on the Book of Job.
