Buildings Designs not built Southport art gallery

Southport library and art gallery

Freeman entered this competition in 1877. Afterwards, he wrote to the British Architect:

“The design was submitted under the motto “As You Like It” in competition last May when it was placed honourably, being in the final seven of a large number sent. Subsequently it was held in higher esteem, and I was communicated with and asked to guarantee its erection for the sum of £6,000. On my declining to comply with this request, my design was dismissed from further consideration.”
