Moscow house

The Architect of 13 April, 1884 illustrated a design for a house near Moscow by Freeman: “the plan of the house is arranged on the Russian system, being one storey only in height, with kitchen, servants’ rooms, &c, in the basement.” The appearance of the house was certainly not Russian: the half-timbered style was typical of Freeman’s designs in the Lake district and in San Remo. The Moscow house was presumably for a British expatriate (as San Remo was) but it is not known who it was for, or if it still exists.
