Hulton Park

Listed park

Knill Freeman carried out “alterations etc for Sir W W B Hulton”.

Lancashire archives has plans by Knill Freeman showing the existing floor plans for the main hall (demolished in 1958) and a plan of proposed alterations to the gardener’s house, so the extent of the work is not known. A number of buildings look as if they could be by Freeman; for example ,according to the list description, “the lodge bears the Hulton coat of arms, carved in stone, and elsewhere a plinth stone is carved with the initials W W B H (William Wilbraham Blethyn Hulton 1844-1907) and the date 1881. The entrance and lodge are as indicated in the OS map of 1894 although the building, especially the windows, looks later.
