St Saviour, Ringley

Listed grade II

The “restoration of tower” in the RIBA list must refer to the freestanding tower which remains from a previous church and is dated 1625. This tower was repaired, raised two feet and a clock added. The statutory list gives the date of 1854 for this work which was also referred to as by Geoff Brandwood in his book about Sharpe, Paley and Austin; a church guide gives 1904. The organ was installed in 1903; this work is referred to in Freeman’s obituary in The Builder.
