The British Architect of 17 Sept 1880 reported:

NEW WESLEYAN CHAPEL AT IRLAMS-O'-TH'-HEIGHT

MR R KNILL FREEMAN ARCHITECT

The foundation stones of the new chapel were laid on Saturday last. The new building will stand on the site of the old one, near the junction of the Swinton and Pendlebury roads, and accommodation will beprovided for 550 people. Internally it will measure 68 feet by 44 feet, the height of the ceiling being 34 feet. The principal entrances will be placed next to the highroad and open into a vestibule communicating with the side aisles. Another gallery will be placed over the vestries at the east end behind the pulpit. The new chapel will be Gothic in style, with a centre gable towards the road and a large traceried window over the entrances.
